I'm Farhan, the founder of this platform, and my journey to creating it started in Wetaskiwin, a small rural town much like many of the communities we aim to serve. Growing up here, I experienced firsthand the challenges of accessing academic resources and opportunities. In my high school years, I noticed a stark contrast between the educational support available in our small town and that in larger cities like Calgary, where scholarships and opportunities seemed to be abundant and actively promoted.

During my time in high school, I was unaware of many scholarships for which I could have been a strong candidate. The focus in our community was more on trades than on post-secondary education, and as a result, many academic opportunities went unspoken of. Additionally, I was not informed about the myriad of online volunteer opportunities that could have enriched my high school experience and bolstered my college applications.

This realization sparked a desire in me to make a change. I founded Rural Opportunity Hub with a single purpose: to ensure that no student in rural areas like Wetaskiwin misses out on opportunities simply because of where they live. I believe that every student, regardless of their geographical location, deserves access to the resources that can help them achieve their academic and personal goals.

Our website is more than just a resource; it's a community dedicated to leveling the playing field for rural students. We bring together scholarships, educational programs, and online volunteer opportunities, all tailored to meet the needs of rural high school students.

Through the Rural Opportunity Hub, I hope to empower students from small towns and rural communities, helping them unlock their full potential. Because no student should be left behind, no matter where they come from.

Warm regards,

Farhan Raza
